One day my elder sister Rahima Khatun said, ‘We have two brothers who have become engineers. You study medicine. The family needs a doctor! ‘
I said, ‘No, I don’t like medicine.’
Then Apa said to her mother, ‘Tell Kahhar to study medicine.’
Mother said, ‘That’s right. Your younger brother is not paying attention to his studies, you have to be a doctor in the family. ‘
I was admitted to Dhaka Medical College at the behest of my mother and mother. The first two years I could not concentrate in class. When I got up in the third year to go to the medicine ward, I started to feel good about the first doctor. Professor SGM Chowdhury’s classes were mesmerizing. He used to come round the ward from 10:30 pm to 11:00 pm.
His love for patients and his humane values made me interested in the medical profession. Here I will talk about two more teachers, whose positive influence on me is immense — Professor NI Khan and Professor AQM Nurul Haque. These teachers built my heart with their wisdom, devotion, ideals of human compassion. I became devoted to the medical profession.
