From a young age, I regularly sang on the radio and in movies. I used to sing mainly for children. But I also have a great desire to sing for adults, a hobby of singing love songs. So that hobby was fulfilled, when I was in Nine.
At that time we lived in Shahid Bagh. At that time the legendary composer Altaf Mahmud Bhai came to the house right next to us. One day my mother Altaf requested her brother and said, ‘My daughter is very fond of singing for adults. Don’t make an adult sing with him. ‘ Hearing this, he said, there will be no adult songs with him now. But Amma is stubborn. Whenever he met Altaf, he would often say to his brother, ‘Don’t play a song with my daughter.’
Altaf Bhai seems to be upset and finally promised his mother, ‘Well, I will sing a song with him. But if it is not good, leave it out. ‘
He then sang the first raga- based solo song with me in a film about fire , ‘Madhu Jyotsnaar Dipali’. After singing this song, one month goes by, two months go by, how is the song, Altaf Bhai did not say anything. Suddenly one day he said, another song has to be sung in this film, a duet song, with Mahmudun Nabi. Then I realized, the first song must not have sung too badly.
But the next song has to be sung with Nabi Bhai, when I heard that my knees started shaking. Anyway, I also sang that song, ‘A bird alone without a companion in the midday sun’. On the same day, the first Altaf Bhai said, ‘You sang very well.’
Once the film was released. The business was successful. But the songs did not become so popular. A few days later, Altaf Bhai sang the song ‘ Shudhu Gaan Geye Parichay’ with me . It was written by Gazi Mazharul Anwar. Then the song became history. So far this is one of the best songs of my life. After this song, I did not have to look back. So I would say, this song is the turning point of my life.
