Six people, including women and children, have been burnt in a gas line explosion in the capital’s Mirpur. They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Rafiqul Islam, son of the owner of the building, told Prothom Alo that there was a problem in the gas line of a six-storey house at 11 Road, C-Block, Mirpur-11 for several days. Although repaired several times by a mechanic, the gas line was not completely fixed.

For this reason, mechanic Sumon came to repair the gas connection around 11 pm on Wednesday. The explosion occurred when the ground floor stove was lit to check the line at the end of the repair. At this time the fire spread around.
The two owners of the building, Ful Mia’s wife Raushan Ara Begum (60) and Rina Begum (50), Rina Begum’s son Shafiqul Islam were burnt. Renu Begum (35), a downstairs tenant, Nazneen (25) and her daughter Nowshin (5) were burnt along with the gas mechanic Sumon in the blast.
Kamrul Hasan, duty officer of the fire service control room, told Prothom Alo that three units of the Mirpur division of the fire service reached the spot around 11:30 pm and brought the fire under control.
The burn victims were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. In-charge (Inspector) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Box Bachchu Mia confirmed this information in the first light quoting the on-duty doctor. He said the condition of the burn victims was critical.
