This was a palm or go home situation and steer fighter Rowdy Parrott is not headed home.
Parrott posted an alternate run of 4.1 to win the Wildcard Round at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo on Saturday fall at the AT&T Center.
It’s stressful, but it worked, said Parrott, who won $ for the palm. “It’s simple, they only take one Joe, and you have to go all out. I knew I had to avoid coverage as much as possible and maximize my address and it worked in my favor and I hope I can continue that tonight.”
The winners of the Wildcard round event advanced to the trials at 8:00 p.m. (ET) on Saturday at the AT&T Center. The tests will correspond to 11 rivals – 5 from each of the semifinals and one from the Wildcard round. The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo concludes Saturday and will air live on The Cowboy Channel and the PRCA on the Cowboy Channel Plus app at 8 p.m. (ET).
“I know the takeoff because this (in the Wildcard round) was the fifth bone I ran then,” the 28-year-old Parrott said. “I just focus on my take off and the direction I have. I’m going to do my job and I know what I have to do. I just want to keep the ball rolling until tonight. Parrott, who qualified twice for the Wrangler National Tests Rodeo, including the last time, is aiming to win the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo for the first time.
Other Wildcard round winners included bareback Jayco Roper (85 points at Calgary Stampede’s Cleaner Bubbles); platoon ropers * Rhett Anderson/ Matt Kuttler (4.2 seconds); defile bronc jockey Kolby Wanchuk (87 points at Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Town); mooring roper * Kincade Henry (8.1 seconds); escaped roper Samantha Fulton (1.8 seconds); barrel racer * Paige Jones (14.15 seconds); and bull rider Ernie CoursonJr. (87 points over Andrews Rodeo’s Screamin’ Demon).
