Keenan Hayes will ride the rodeo with his permit in 2022, but the bareback rider isn’t performing like a first-year student in the PRCA.
Hayden, the Colo. buckaroo, is at the top of the PRCA | RAM Rodeo permit standings with $21,316 earned earlier this season. After the first weekend of action, he leads the field with an 86-point increase in the Hampton Pro Rodeo’s Rising Tide. He has prepared himself for another payday at the San Angelo (Texas) Rodeo.
I just went there to have a little fun, the 19-year-old Hayes said. I knew the (stock) contractor, I didn’t know anything about the steed, but I thought it would make a good bone. I went there to have fun, but it worked out in my favor.
This is the alternate season Hayes has contested on his PRCA furlough. He said he allowed himself to copy the PRCA card from him but ultimately decided to stay until the following season.
I’m still berating myself a bit for it (not buying the PRCA card from him), but now I’m going to stick around until the time comes and make sure I get it right, he said.
I’m just going out there to have fun. I still have a lot to learn, so hopefully, I can know everything and be ready to play full-time.
He hopes the redundant time of competition in the sport puts him in a better position to succeed.
Hayes said I’m going to come out another time and continue to grow. In the future, I will have much more experience to attack head-on. We will also see what happens next season.
The remainder of the San Angelo Rodeo will air live on The Cowboy Channel and online on PRCA on The Cowboy Channel Plus app, April 7-9 and April 13-15.
