A ripple of sentiment flowed through NRG Stadium as the 2022 Houston Livestock Show, and Rodeo™ Grand Champion Junior Market Steer was named.
Out of more than steers, the top 34 were brought to NRG Stadium to choose a champion at the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Steer Show.
Sixteen-year-old Aven Horn and his other crossbred steer, Vanilla Ice, came in as the Grand Champion market steer of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The sophomore from Anson, Texas, said: “There are no words. We have done such important work for once, and it has finally paid off.”
Aven grew up around cattle assiduousness and had been showing it since he was in third grade. She attributes her desire to show cattle to her parents, who showed up in high school.
“Winning the Grand Champion steer at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo means a lot,” Aven said. “Words really can’tcan’t describe the quality of the cattle that came out then. Winning then means everything.”
The Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Steer title was awarded to Tristan Himes of Sterling City, Texas, for his other cross steer.
For Tristan, an underdog in high school, showing cattle is what he eats, sleeps and breathes.
Being fit to do so well at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo makes all the hard work worthwhile.
“It takes an army to make a steer look this good,” Tristan said.
An army of relatives and musketeers was ideal for making Tristán’sTristán’s dream come true.
